The challenge.
Field meter-reading workflows need to identify a meter, capture the relevant region, interpret the reading, and transfer structured information into the customer’s operating system.
What we built.
Telenext built an Android application with a local model for meter identification and reading-region detection. OCR extracts the reading on the device, and the application passes the result to the customer’s CRM. Related work introduced a document-retrieval pipeline using LangChain and Gemma.
What the work demonstrates.
The reference implementation demonstrates meter recognition and OCR on a midrange Android device. Performance needs to be evaluated against the actual meter types, lighting, and capture conditions of each rollout.
